Week 1: Introduction

Firstly, welcome to the alkaline diet membership. In the next 4 weeks, we are going to help you embark on the alkaline diet and transform your life.

After you have downloaded the entire course, MP3s, and other reports, you want to start off by reading the main eBook on the Alkaline Diet. By doing so, you will have a detailed understanding on what is the alkaline diet and how you can transform your health by changing your diet and lifestyle.

It will probably take you a few days to a week to complete reading the main Alkaline Diet e-Course.

While you are reading the Alkaline Diet e-Course, you can start reflecting upon your daily diet and how you feel physically and mentaly on a daily basis. In this section, you could share with us your experience with your current diet.

With one of our client’s permission, we would like to share with you his experience…

In the past, every morning, I would have oats, bread, and sometimes even pastries and cakes. At that time, I didn’t know cakes and pastries are highly acidic and in most morning, I felt tired just 15 mins after breakfast. Even though I ate a hearty breakfast, before noon, I began to crave for more foods. That puzzled me.

At noon, I would normally have a portion of each of the food groups advocated by The Food Pyramid – vegetables, fish, chicken, bean curd, eggs and white rice. On occasions when I ate more acidic foods like fish, eggs and rice, I would feel extremely lethargic later in the afternoon.

After lunch, I would have some fruits. I had no knowledge that fruits should be eaten before the meals. As a result, I often experience bloatedness and burp excessively. It was highly embarrassing especially when I was out meeting clients. No one wants to smell the remains of your lunch.

For dinner, I had almost the same combination of foods as my lunch, convinced that I was sticking to a ‘balanced diet’.

On the whole, I don’t feel that I’m very healthy and I would fall sick once every 2-3 months – illnesses like cough, flu and sore throat come and go and I felt trapped in this vicious cycle, desperate to break out of it – until I learn about the Alkaline Diet from this website

And that’s how he feel on the whole before he embark on the alkaline diet. Now it’s your turn to share with us your current daily experience! Everyone of us could learn about how our diet influence our energy level and health on a daily basis.

After this, you can go on to our next section on “What do you want to achieve from the alkaline diet?”

You can also go to this page – What do you usually have for breakfast? and share with us what is your current diet. This is new community page that we are building to find out more about how to help you further.

Hi, typically I have been having oat or wheat flakes, fruit with soy milk for breakfast. I have suffered with headaches, tiredness and muscular aches and pains daily for many years, and can’t seem to shed my waist fat band. I am really optimistic that the Alkaline diet will remedy these plagues and can’t wait to get started.

I have been to the ER three times in two years. It’s always acid reflux. I’m 58 years old and in excellent health except for the acid reflux and an extra 30lbs that I gained after stopping a 30 year cigarette addiction.

On June 22nd I’m going in for my first endoscopy and my second colonoscopy. Since my colon will already be all cleaned out for procedure I figure that the detox is done and it would be an excellent opprotunity to start rebuilding a healthy gut flora through the alkaline diet.

I usually have coffee with sugar for breakfast along with a breakfast taco of chicken, pico, avacado and cucumbers. Afterwards I would have so much indigestion that I felt like I could pop like a balloon!

I felt very healthy, I was lean and fit and had energy and maybe once every 3-4 years would get a common cold or flu. I really thought I was super healthy. Then a year and a half ago I got bit by a bug and broke out in hives. I thought they would go away shortly. They never went away. I am inflicted with hives on a daily basis anywhere from just a splattering to fully covered body. My energy is low, I can not commit to anything including work, social life, any appointments at all. It is difficult to exercise, be in the heat, wear clothing, etc. I just started a juice fast which will be 30 days. I saw some people online that had what I have (Urticaria) and it helped them from 95% to fully cured. I used an Alkaline diet in the past for Hypothyroidism which I got as a response to a miscarriage. I was able to fully cure myself. I forgot about the Alkaline diet until now. I will do it again now in addition to the juice fast, or after the juice fast. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long while.

I want to get my energy level up so I can run, jump and dance like I did when I was raising my children. Now they are grown and out the way I want energy to do me. Tired of feeling tired. My mind says go but body says no. I need to lower my blood pressure also taking medication now that I would like to get off of, exercise helps but not consistently must change diet. Now I know I can do it have changed some but need knowledge of right foods to eat. Hoping alkaline diet will give me that added boost along with the exercise that I need.

Hi, I am truly looking forward to live a life full of energy. More than 10 – years ago I started eating foods that contained less fat, sugar and carbs, while I was enrolled in a required nutrition class for my bachelor degree. I did not realize how weight I lost until one of my classmates commented the difference in my appearance. I continued to make more changes including incorporating weight lifting and cardio exercise. For more than 3 years I removed meat, sugars, etc from my diet. This was effortless; I truly did not have the desire for most of except fruits, vegetables, legumes, etc. I don’t recall feeling anything else but healthy during those years. Unfortunately, little by little my eating habits changed with an introduction of sugar into my diet. I wish to remove from my diet all the foods that are essentially robbing of a long healthy life. I’m looking forward to making positive changes.

I would like to lower my LDL and increase my HDL. My MD wants to put me on meds for chloresterol but I don’t want to be on meds. I need to lose weight as I have been on many many diets which have not had lasting results. PH factor is new to me and would like to see if this may be the answer to all the issues I am presently facing. I am not a meat eater but enjoy plain yogurt and occasional white fish. Salads are a daily ritual but it has not helped the weight issue.

I usually have a vegetable/fruit smoothie, or cereal, or a eggs with raw veggies, or a bacon/egg croissant and coffee. I have tried the paleo lifestyle but i haven’t been very successful. I cheat a lot. I love potatoes fixed any style and that is not conducive to the paleo diet. and as i said in an earlier comment, i am taking prednisone and methotrexate for an autoimmune disease and i’ve put on about 20 pounds in 4.5 months.

I’ve heard so much about the acidic/alkaline balance that I want to see if that is my problem. I am 40 lbs overweight and can loose any of it, no matter how much I try. Also, a suffer from excesive gas both in stomach and intestines, feel tired most of the time–‘any energy seems to come late at night. My spirits are good but it is hard when the body doesn’t seem to want to join in. I haven’t looked at the recipes yet and hope they don’t ask for too many unusual items since I live in Venezuela and availability is limited. I feel that with this eating plan I can return to a healthy and active life.

I am new to this entire new way of eating and living. I’ve been trying to change up my diet already on my own, by integrating organics and nonprocessed foods. My diet is at about half and half right now as I am trying to ease myself and my kids into this change. I decided to see a naturopath so I can do a cleanse of some sort… and to get a complete look at my health so I can get planted solidly on a good path for me. Well, all my labs came back and scared the shit out of me! From prediabetic to dangerously low levels of vitamin D and B to a highly acidic ph….. I felt like thank God this change of lifestyle even occured to me! Otherwise I’d be severely sick in a couple of years. She told me I needed to shift into a more alkaline diet to change my ph. So I did a little bit of my own research, as she gave me sample meal plans that were just downright boring, so that I can be educated and also so I can see what other food options I have. So here I am! Here’s to a return to health and to being educated.

I want to eliminate my GERD, regain my health and need to lose 100 lbs. I was the petite skinny girl all through childhood who couldn’t gain weight to save my life until I had children. Then it started increasing a little at a time until I got to my heaviest. I am below that now but still obese. I am the oldest of four and use to look younger than all of them and one is 14 years younger than me. I want to regain that youthfulness, strength, and vigor.

My story is pretty much like Linda’s, I have been battling a weight problem most of my adult life. In high school when I hit puberty the weight gain started, I tried to get on my weight lifting team so I worked long hours lifting weights and building muscle. When I had my son I gained 60 lbs. and could not lose the baby weight dispute being very active working and riding horse daily. Nine years later I gave birth to my daughter and my weight tipped the scales at 242 lbs. about 5 years ago I was advised by a friend after trying literally ever diet out there, to go to a local doctor that helped with weightless. She prescribed adepex to help curb my appetite and I was advised on how and what to eat and not eat, then the importance of working out 30 minutes a day at least 4 days a week. I was at 218 lbs at this point and rode colts for a family friend, so still very active. I began walking and at a high point was able to walk 4 miles in about 45 minutes, until I was kicked by my horse and had to have surgery to repair the shattered bones in my elbow. In this time I found out that I am allergic to just about every pain medication out there for the exception of 800mg ibuprofen. During the surgery they had to do several nerve blocks so I would not feel the pain. I was advised to take it easy for 8 weeks to allow the bones to heal around the titanium screws now in place, After this ordeal I have yet to regain energy and feel really lethargic all the time, I have begun to regain weight, which at the time of surgery was at 147, now at 185. I have three jobs and ride horses daily, two of my jobs are in the cattle industry working out doors all day no matter the season, the third job is as a patient access associate in my local ER at night, so I can have health benefits and put help my son through college. I just downloaded the materials and am very eager to get started implementing to
the plan. I already have been avoiding processed food, I’m at a loss as to what I’m doing wrong and why I continue to gain weight.

My story is a pretty complicated one of ongoing battling my weight most of my adult life. Although I was a chubby child growing up. Gone through many doctor’s diets and tests to see if I have any reason why can’t seem to lose weight and now I have been taking a thyroid med due to low thyroid after one of my many tests taking a antidepressant for over twenty years, i also take blood pressure med and am supposed to be on high cholesterol med but can;t afford the one my doctor wants me to take as it’s not generic. So I’m at my wits ends and hopefully the Alkaline Diet will be my answer to my prayers! I’m excited about the program and am gonna give it my best effort! It really makes a lot of sense to me. I have been introduced to the alkaline water and how important it is to have alkaline ph body so here we go! Wishing us all great results and great health for the rest of our lives!

HI, I just started downloading the info and am excited about finding a diet philosophy that may be in line with what I already believe but do not always implement.
Love the concept of alkalinizing thru diet!

I have been mostly healthy but with chronic depression (on Zoloft x 20 yrs) and weight gain, unable to lose wt. difficulty sleeping, and fatigue, and now suffering from moderate to severe hip pain x 3 months.

(I recently encountered the concept of “DONATING WEIGHT” instead of losing wt. as the concept is that if we “LOSE” something our psyche is constantly trying to get it back!!!)

I have gone mostly gluten-free as I intuited that gluten might be causing some arthritis, but have cravings that I don’t control well and want to balance those out and lose about 30 pounds. So far I’m not pre-diabetic but I’ve been overweight over 12 years so I am at risk.
I am wishing us all success with ease and grace and enjoyment!!!

I originally came upon this diet when researching alternatives for osteoporosis medication. It just makes so much sense. However, I seem to be addicted to sugar and love bread and pizza. It has been extremely difficult to stick to it. This program seems so far to be something I may be better able to implement. Others push water ionizers ($1500) and the ingredients are next to impossible to find. I’m looking forward to getting with this program.

A little reluctant and scared. I just want this alkalizing diet to work for me. After 35+ years of crazy painful headaches I have just found out why. It’s called PTC (psuedotumor cerebri) essentially I have too much cerebrospinal fluid and its causing pressure in my head, thus the unrelenting headaches. I am on this site because I have just started a medication that works but the side effects are brutal, the med turns my blood highly acidic .Everything i eat goes right through me. My hope is to alkalize my body so that i can continue to take this medication or until i can find another way to rid myself of the extra fluid. Maybe i can get so healthy that I will balance all my body fluids and i won’t need this wonderful/terrible medication!

Hi everyone! Looks like plenty of folks here with problems like mine: Type 2 Diabetes (under control with taking medicine) high cholesterol (under control with medicine) high BP (under control with meds) AND way over weight. Digestive disorders for thirty years, gas, pain ,bowel spasms.

How do I do the first week while taking Metformin for the
    diabetes??

I had never heard that we should have an alkaline body pH, but reading it here makes sense and I will try it. Always thought our meals were pretty good. I don’t sleep well and always feel terrible. I have Fibromyalgia, too, and believe the alkaline diet will help me; I live with constant pain and digestive upsets. This must change!

Lately I developed a super sensibility to odors and smells, I have allergy almost to everything: parfumes, flowers, coffee, even air and soil…Somedays I can’not go outside. I have a problem with a sleeping, every morning I feel tired and empty of energy. My joints and back are under pain attack. My dentist has a lot of job with the cavity in my teeths. I feel like my body is going out of balance.
I try to find the cause of it, but I hear only one explanation from the doctors :”it is aging!”
But in my 63 I don’t think I’m to old for to be out of pain and troubles.
I don’t smoke, consume alcohol occasionally, always cook fresh food from the scratch, try to buy it organic…
    So, something is wrong.
Now I think maybe it is my ideas about the healty diet and lack of knowledge how to combine food together.
The Alkaline Balanced Diet looks promising to me.
I hope it will help me to get rid of pain , and achieve the feeling of balance and health.

I currently have about 15 lbs I want to lose, I definitely want a more alkaline level to my pH and level my blood levels. I am hoping in doing so, not only will I be able to lose that weight, but I will also lose the cysts that keep forming near my ovaries to avoid surgery, the pain that has become more chronic in my left hip and the aches and pains I have that I don’t feel I should have at the age of 44! I’ve always been considered pretty healthy, but I think I need to be more alkaline and certainly could benefit from more energy since I am a massage therapist and current acupuncture and TCM student. I would also like to see the numbness go away from my fingers that appears occasionally.

I have been on a health path for some time. I went to mexico and had gastric sleeve feb 2011 to control portions because my mind loves food too much lol. I learn about no white foods, eating stevia, no fast foods, trying to eat more fruits and veggies even just ordered juice plus for better fruit and veggie intake. I drink one or two protein shakes and eat whatever i feel i want usually pretty healthy choices. I have however found that i still love chips or fries. I am 43 and have been trying to eat better and change lifestyle because i know i am getting older and hope to avoid or reduce risks for sickness, disease and or cancer. when I went for surgery i was 235 i now weigh 171. I have heard some talk and information on alkaline diet and cancer. I am in healthcare and understand acidic and alkaline so i want to learn more and do more for my healthy life path. i have no health problems but would love to feel more energized and stable in mood swings

I have been doing an alkaline diet for over a year now, but not any specific program. I have not been sick since I started the diet but I am interested in learning about what foods to eat with what and when to assist in boosting alkalinity. My ph levels are still too low first thing in the morning.

My complaints are similar to Janine’s, wake up unrest-ed then go all night while the rest of the world sleeps. A True Night Owl.
2006 I had breast cancer/radiation and was advised to go on an alkaline diet but had only a list of foods to choose from, now with the recipes I can spark things up a bit. Got to the point of going without eating from the boredom of same old all the time.
I am in my 78th year and enjoy being physical but the energy now does not carry me throughout the day.
I saw my Mother & Grandmother enjoy life into their very late 90’s & their secret was their diet, wish I had listened more closely to their advice now.
I am anxious to read your literature and will begin now as it is never too late. Thank you

Hello! I have been working to eliminate allergies and asthma, insomnia, depression, hypertension, overweight, and acid reflux for a couple of years. I have made enormous progress but have not quite been able to get to the point that I can get off my medications. Diet improvements and releasing emotions have contributed greatly to my improvement, but I have felt for a while that I need to somehow go to the next level and have not found a nutrition plan that would do that for me. I think this might finally be what I was looking for!

I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and an overall feeling of lethargy and sluggishness. Since I have 3 trips to make every morning before I get myself to work-hubbie to work, and 2 different schools to drop kids off-I skip breakfast. I have a cup of coffee, sometimes 2 and drink ice water throughout the day. I eat a sandwich and chips for lunch or maybe pasta and salad. Supper is usually pasta, rice and beans or something fast. I know I don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, and I am willing to change, so I can feel and look better.

I am 55 yrs young and thanks to genetics look younger than my age but, I’ve been fighting a 50lb weight gain for 21 years since my daughter died suddenly. I have tried many things to lose this weight, HCG injections worked to get the weight off…but, sadly, I didn’t keep it off. I can gain 10lbs in a matter of days, and that is NOT by binge eating or secret eating…it’s just eating with family (even on the FOOD LOVERS Diet!) I have been an organic and natural food eater…don’t eat too many processed foods, that said, keeping track of what I eat will be enlightening I hope. I have plans I want to implement in my life but I feel cloudy in my thinking and fatigued so I’m not making the progress I should. I hope this works. Thank you.

My doctor has just threatened me with drugs to lower my cholesterol if I don’t lower it by diet. I had a total hysterectomy about 6 weeks ago, and am still recovering. I could lose about 10 pounds, but am not extremely overweight. I am looking forward to taking control of my health and (stealthily) my husband’s health.

What type sugar can I use for my family that are natural and not harmful to the body?

    • Alkaline Diet Support

      03. Feb, 2012

@Donna: Hi Donna, one of the healthiest forms of sugar is stevia. Stevia is a type of plant that is 100 times sweeter than our normal sugar and yet it is suitable for diabetes patients.

Other than that, you may want to consider substitutes like molasses or raw honey. Brown sugar is as bad as white sugar.

    • Patricia Richetto

      03. Apr, 2013

Another good selection is Agave which is a natural sweetener recommended for diabetics because the glycemic content is 1/2 the value of honey or sugar. I like to use it for cooking, baking and for hot cereal.

I didn’t realize that 95% of my diet was acidic. The last two weeks I’ve began juicing the mean green drink and eating alkaline vegetables and fruits and raw pecans. The last few days I’ve found myself weak and shaky as I detox, heart beats a little faster as I climb stairs (due to my increased metabolism I guess). So far I’m down from 200lbs to 190lbs. One thing I noticed is that before I started this diet my feet would be in extreme pain when I would stand after being seated for a while. My feet are now fine! Not one bit of pain! Obviously I’m doing something right. I have a few warts that I want to rid myself of and am hoping this diet will help.

    Hi!
Last year I had some health problems. However I never felt as bad as during last two months. My daugther (she is in med school) suggested H. pylori and mention alkaline diet. Last week I decided to see my family doctor. He also adviced this diet and in the mean time I am doing all tests.
Rigth now I am reading the materials you send me. Then slowly, step by step, I am going to start dieting.

I have been researching and shifting my diet over the years and I think that I generally eat pretty healthy meals – organic-based, home prepared from whole ingredients. However, I have a wicked penchant for snacking in between them and in the evening as ‘cpmfort food’, especially if drinking alcohol [ 3x weekly average]. This combined with menopause has had me in a tizzy !! Thus I have an imbalance that I am committed to curing.

I have terrible reflux — am into my 5th day of OTC medication that should last 24 hrs and only helps if I take twice the dosage twice a day. I have been thru this with a gastroenterologist and know that twice the OTC dosage is equal to the RX dosage — but this time it has taken me the full 5 days to get relief that lasts for 12 hours. I look forward to getting off this ride and getting rid of reflux!

    19. Aug, 2011

I would like to increase my energy levels, but do not need to lose weight. I feel as though many of the meals are designed to target weight loss as well. I know that I need a sufficient amount of food to get through my day to day activities. I feel as though a shake in the morning for breakfast would never be enough. Nor a veggie salad for lunch would suffice. Any suggestions?

    • Alkaline Diet Support

      19. Aug, 2011

@Victoria Seites-Rundlett: Hi Victoria, if you find that you need more food, you can always add more variety to your meals.

For example, having a shake and a buckwheat wrap in the morning, at the same time, having veggie salad and quinoa for your lunch. What we provided are some ideas and sample meal plans that you can mix and match but it’s not customized towards every individual.

I am wanting to sleep better at night and be tired at the right times. I feel like i am most energetic very late in the evening and then even if I still get my 8 hours of sleep I am not waking up refreshed in the morning and it takes me half the day to get going again. I am in the normal weight range for my height and age but my energy levels are really bad most of the time and that effects my motivation to exercise (which I actually really like doing when I have the energy) and live life to the full. I am hoping perhaps an acid/alkaline balance is the problem.

I have been on many diets to lose weight and gain control of my health but to no avail. My health seems to be spiraling out of control and my doctors just keep giving me more and more medications. I suffer from type II diabetes, hypothyroid, high blood pressure, arthritis, hot flahes and one thing the doctors can’t seem to find a pill, cure or even a diagnosis for is a loss of balance. I am hoping to have a healthy life for the remainder of my years with more energy and less doctors and prescriptions.
